CBC Day 2 - The Pace Starts to Pick Up

Day 2 Starts at Rev. Al's Shindig - But He wasn't There

I started Day 2 of CBC Week reception hopping by meeting up with my nephew, Daniel Hsieh, a third year law student at Seattle University, and making a stop at the National Action Network's reception at ACLU Headquarters over on 15th St., NW near the McPherson Square metro. Alas, Rev. Al was not there as he was taping his MSNBC show at the local affiliate studios.

We met two great people, Lauren Powell, a PhD student at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Brandon Batiste, an Assistant Director at John Hopkins. Young people are into some interesting things these days. Anyway, after some good conversation, Daniel and I decided to leave before they started the speeches and the awards giving. And besides, Daniel said the collard greens were a little bit too salty.

Next stop, a STEM4US CBC reception sponsored by Pepco at their Edison Place Gallery where they have all kinds of WWI exhibits. Interesting place to showcase STEM. Food wasn't bad. Jerk chicken wings and some pastries. The raspberry lemonade needed a little bit more water in it. Congressman Bobby Scott of VA showed up to talk about how important it was to reverse the school to prison pipeline and get those young folks into the STEM pipeline. Sounds good.
